Dr Philip Strike MB BS, FRCP, PhD

Dr Strike has a busy general cardiology practice and also offers comprehensive aviation cardiology services to a wide range of aviation professions, including commercial pilots, general aviation pilots, Air Traffic Controllers and Cabin Crew.

He was born and trained in the UK, and was appointed as a Consultant cardiologist in 2005. He worked as an NHS and private consultant in Portsmouth in the UK for 13 years before moving to the UAE. He was a Consultant Adviser to the Civil Aviation Authority in the UK, to CASA in Australia and the National Air Traffic Service (NATS) in the UK. He is now an approved specialist aeromedical examiner for the GCAA. He is extremely familiar with licensing regulations affecting all categories of pilots, ATCOs and crew.

He is a passionate Newcastle United supporter.

Dr Strike qualified from St George’s Hospital, London in 1991. He was awarded a PhD from University College London in 2006 and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. He acts as an examiner for the Royal College as well as having chaired one of the groups that sets the College examinations.

He has a particular interest in angioplasty and stenting and has performed over 3000 cases, including a primary angioplasty on a gentleman having a heart attack shown on BBC1, and live televised angioplasty cases for national angioplasty meetings.

He was previously the a regional specialty advisor in  cardiology for the Royal College of Physicians and has also been a faculty member for the British Cardiac Society and British Cardiovascular Intervention Society.

Aviation Specialist

Dr Strike offers a comprehensive service for the cardiological assessments of pilots, air traffic controllers and anyone with concerns about their cardiological fitness to fly.

He is familiar with all of the recommendations for Class 1, 2 or 3 license holders and is able to both treat any cardiac problem and to facilitate submission of reports to the CAA as per current guidance.

He is one of only 3 CAA trained cardiologists still in full time practice.
